Shift Your Posture

Let’s Sleep On It

Sleep is essential to being healthy. According to Dr. Daniel Amen, Psychiatrist and Brain Dysfunction Specialist and author of Change Your Brain and Change Your Life and many others, lists Sleep as one of the ten components to “Enhance Brain Health”.

Adults need 7 or more hours, teens 8-10 hours with school-age youth needing 10-12 per 24 hour time period. So ideally we spend approximately 1/3 of our day sleeping.

How can your posture be effected as you sleep?

As we sleep our posture collapses when the muscles relax. Having a pillow supports the knees so it relieves added pressure of leg weight on the hips or pressure on the low back.

Making sure to have a small pillow supporting the neck in the horizontal position will also help with neck pain. Many of us have had that experience of traveling and waking up with a kink in our neck from the pillow being to stuffed. While it may look great and inviting with the bed made it is horrible for our sleeping posture.
