[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text css_animation=”bounceInLeft”]Tammy Shaw-Sykes is the Founder of Shift Fitness & Massage (Established, August 2011) She began her career in massage in 2010. As she worked on clients she saw a need for more education to help people get out of pain and stay out of pain. She earned two Associates of Applied Science Degrees in Clinic Massage Therapy and Sports and Exercise Science by 2012. She founded Shift Fitness and Massage in Fall of 2011. “For the Rest of Us”. Not being a consistent “gym person” She understands the scientific need for movement and believes that EVERYONE should have the right to top current scientific research for holistic health.  Her experience also means that gave her a understanding of blending of massage with movement for improved flexibility along with strengthening to assist in eliminating pain. This along with Therapeutic yoga and body weight training along with dance set her apart from other therapists early on.

She is constantly on the quest for better scientific ways of getting people out of pain, improving posture and better movement.

I have done extensive training in Orthopedic massage with Erik Dalton, (Freedom from Pain Institute)  James Waslaski (Center for Pain Management), Paul Kelly (Creator of PhysioKinetix Training), and Til Luchau (Advanced Myoskeletal Techniques) . In October 2018 I completed my coursework in Myoskeletal Alignment was 28th in the world to be recognized as a Master Myoskeletal Therapist. This is the highest education for a Massage Therapist and Manual Body Worker which is also recognized by the Physical Therapists and Chiropractors.  St Paul College in the beginning of my education in 2009 taught me about the skeletal system but also incorporating movement. Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy was a continuation of a perfect blending of stretching, strengthening through bodywork.

As I look back at my life, the 20’s where filled with low back pain, the 30’s numbness & tingling and diagnoses. What no one really took a good hard look at was how I moved and how that lack of movement was causing tightness, pain and so much more. These memories lead me to wanting to take move of my clients off the table and into proper alignment of the spine and joints. This is why Certification as Posture Expert with American Posture Institute was completed in 2020. This still incorporates orthopedic work while strengthening the spine and keeping it strong to support our foundational system. Many of my clients (like myself years ago) have postural issues and if avoided can cause numbness, tingling, neuropathy and so much more. This is also a fantastic way to work with people with scoliosis. From youth to seniors.

Helping people avoid issues of scoliosis, sitting disease, nerve impingement can be done by also looking at the workplace. Virtual assessments through photos and questionnaires can go along way to less pain days, headaches, back aches, carpal tunnel symptoms, eye fatigue etc. which is also why I took education to another level with Certified Ergonomist at the American Posture Institute.  This is not about the desk and monitor. This considers your body, injuries and even how you work as you move.

Tammy offers a safe environment in a private wellness center with client centered therapy. While that therapy may start as a Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy session with posture photos, it will transition to the movement and rehabilitation area. Posture exercises for at home or virtual work assessments. One owner, one operator with only you in mind to assist you to Be Pain Free, Move Better and Stand Taller.

In Tammy’s spare time you will find her playing sand volleyball, wallyball, dancing to local musicians with East Coast Swing & Latin Dancing and hanging out with her husband, 5 grandkids and family.[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]
